Green cars: Denmark versus Norway

I just spend some days in Trondheim in Norway combining work and a wedding party. I was exited to see the huge numbers of electric cars and hybrid taxis there compared to Denmark. Norway produces an electric car, Think, and the tax system works in favour of hybrid cars and electric cars. Another thing that might explain the difference is the high price of gas and diesel of Norway, it is simply reasonable from an economic perspective to drive environment green cars in Norway.

In Denmark we have about 2.6 million cars. According to the latest figures from SKAT (12 August 2010) there is only registered 284 electric cars, 73 electric vans and 324 electric motorcycles (typically small cars approved after soft motorcycle rules). Experts bid on the number of electric cars in 2020 from modest 75,000 to at the most optimistic bid of half a million. To speed up the market for electric cars a law has been passed that until 2015, electric cars will be exempt from the registration fee of 105 to 180 per cent. But this has not helped. There still is no place you go as a consumer and have a test drive in an electric car in Denmark. The same go for hybrid cars, that has been viewed as the transition to an all electric future.
